All VA students are entitled to receive a student card or ISIC card. The card will serve as a proof of your student status, give you access to special student discounts in museums, galleries and public transport, enable you to enter the UMPRUM buildings and the new VA room in Mikulandská, and print in the UMPRUM IT rooms. One week before the end-of-semester show and before the graduation show, UMPRUM is usually open 24 hours a day for students to finalize their projects.
IMPORTANT
Always carry your student/ISIC card on you to be able to enter the school and the VA
room.
The VA room is a space which all international master´s degree students can share. It was
(and hopefully will be) located on the 3rd floor in room number 306 in the main UMPRUM
building, however due to the renovation of the fourth and third floors in the main UMPRUM
building, it has been temporarily moved to joint rooms 012 and 014 in the Technological
Centre in Mikulandská.
You can stay and work in the VA room all day, meet your fellow
master´s students from various disciplines and spend time together. Sharing the space with
everybody is meant to enhance the dialogue between students of different fields, who can
learn, share and teach one another. The VA room is also the place where you meet the VA
tutor for the VA meetings once a week.
The lecture and seminar rooms are in both in Karlín and in the Technological Centre in Mikulandská 5. Six of them can be found on the first floor at Kasárna Karlín (four in the right wing and two in the left wing, see the floor plan). Three more lecture and seminar rooms are located at Mikulandská 5; two of them on the ground floor and one on the 3rd floor.

VA Coordinator after you enrol).
You can change the automatically generated password here. Switch the website to English, click on the Sign in button (on the top of the page), enter your username and password, sign in and click on your name button and pick the Personal Data section. Then click on Change
password button, type in the new password (“Nové Heslo/New Password”) and confirm the
new password by writing in again in the box below titled “Kontrola hesla”(Password
Confirmation).
If you happen to forget your username and password, you will have contact the
UMPRUM IT Centre in Mikulandská 5, room 207 and 206 (2nd floor) or in Karlín,
Křižíkova 12, room B13-02 (at the end of the left wing, 1st floor). The IT staff will
generate a new password for you.
You can sign up for classes here in the student information system called STAG.
After switching to English and logging in, you will have to go to the My study section (the third
section on the top of the page) and then to Pre-Registration section (the 7th section on the
left of the page). First, you click on the Search for the Course section on the top of the page,
enter the code of the subject and then you click on Search button and on the course itself.
You will have to tick the course and the registration should be complete. For more details

schedule).
The student information system opens to students one week before the winter and
spring semester start and closes one week after the semesters begin. It’s necessary to
sign up for the courses within the two-week interval.

Your email address will be in the form of your firstname.lastname@umprum.cz. Check your
electronic mail on this address regularly – all UMPRUM emails (from professors, the
UMPRUM staff) will be sent to this account.
The deadline for tuition payment is 15th October for winter semester and the 29 th February for spring semester. You can either pay in cash (only CZK, at the cash desk, room 009) or by bank transfer in Czech Crowns to the following bank account:

The UMPRUM psychologist specializes in individual counselling, psychotherapy and crisis intervention in overcoming stressful situations in studies and personal life. Consultations are tailored to the nature of the difficulties, with contact focusing on self-knowledge and personal development, adaptation to change, coping with anxiety and other personal, psychological and interpersonal problems. The ombudswoman mediates situations involving human rights violations in all aspects to
help those who approach her. The UMPRUM ombud’s position is held by Tereza Nešetřil
Vejřík and this is how she perceives her role at UMPRUM:
“The role of the ombudswoman as that of a professional person with sensitivity to oppression and injustice. An ombudsperson
should have an awareness of issues of bullying, discrimination based on race, sexual orientation, identity, religion, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, as well as gaslighting, bossing, mobbing, sexual coercion, and manipulation from a position of power in general.”

The print lab can be found on the 2nd floor in the Technology Centre in Mikulandská, room 217. It is equipped with computers, printers, plotters, scanners, and paper cutters and open daily except for weekends; there's also a smaller computer room in Mikulandská 5, room 016.

To be able to print (or rent an audio or video equipment), students must charge their
UMPRUM student card / account with money. They can either pay in cash at the
economic department in Karlín, 1st floor, room C02-01, or online (IPS Account Fill section).

You can use the printers with computers connected to them on all four floors of the
Mikulandská 5 building and in four locations along the Kasárna Karlín corridor, 1st
floor. If you don’t have enough money on your UMPRUM account to be able to print, and
the economic department is closed (after 3:30pm), you can pay pay online (the IPS Account Fill section).
Free of charge; after paying a deposit (ranging from 100 to 5000 CZK) or with enough balance in their student account, students can rent various audio and video devices, such as data projectors, cameras, tablets, TV screens, microphones, tripods, headphones, etc.
You can browse through and book the equipment here and pick up the equipment you book in the Technology Centre Mikulandská, 3rd floor, room 301.
Again, the deposit can be paid in cash in the economic department in Karlín, 1st floor,
room C02-01, and online (IPS Account Fill section).
Free of charge; after paying a deposit or when having enough balance in their account, students can rent various tools such as drills, jack planes, various saws, grinders, chisels, pliers, hand trucks, ladders, trolleys, etc.
UMPRUM has four bikes and one cart to share that you can rent for 3 hours free of charge. The rules and the availability of the bikes can be checked here.
The school library has been an integral part of the school since it was built in 1885. Apart from having a collection that numbers around fifty-five thousand, the library also carries forty-five periodicals and magazines from other countries, as well as fifty-five from the Czech Republic. The specific collections within the library’s archive reflect the departments of study within the school itself. Though direct access to the library’s collection is not freely available, the current periodicals are at visitor’s disposal for onsite reference. Books from the collection may be photocopied for study purposes.

UMPRUM has two galleries where students and graduates can also exhibit their work: UM Gallery, located on the ground floor of the main UMPRUM building, now temporarily moved to the main hall in Mikulandská 5, and NIKA gallery in Karlovo náměstí metro station. For more, see here.
UMPRUM publishes books in the field of art history, theory and aesthetics, and at the occasion of important contemporary art exhibitions, and it also issues catalogues. All the books are usually designed by well-known or up-and-coming graphic designers – most of whom are UMPRUM students and graduates – many of which have been awarded prizes for best book design in the Czech Republic.
The UMPRUM dormitory called “Kolej Mikoláše Alše” is located in Na Výšinách 2 Street, Prague 7, which is close to school and the city centre. The dorm, whose capacity is slightly limited (there are 70 beds in 35 double-bed rooms of apartment style), accommodates students from the end of September till the end of June. At the moment when the main building is under reconstruction, UMPRUM has only one café/
bistro serving food for lower-than-average prices: a café called IMBUS/ CAMP cafe can be
found on the ground floor in the new Technological Centre in Mikulandská 5. It is usually
open from 9am to 6pm.
Students can also eat subsidized student meals at the student cafeterias called menzas or refectories – the price for a lunch is approximately 3 EUR. The closest eating places for students in Prague 1 are:

You can hike freely in the Czech Republic with a backpack and a sleeping mat. The woods and fields are usually not fenced and there are many marked tourist routes everywhere – see tourist maps here (zoom in closely to see the net of red, green, yellow and blue routes). You can sleep anywhere in the open in the woods, however, making campfires is usually forbidden. There’s no need to be afraid of venomous animals in the Czech countryside: there’s only one venomous snake (an adder) and one spider species (the yellow sac spider) but even their bites are not fatal. There are a few bears and wolves in some parts of the Czech Republic (usually deep in the woods in the mountains on the borders with Poland, Germany and Slovakia) but these are rather shy animals avoiding people’s company. If you don’t eat red, yellowish or greenish looking mushrooms and small berries from bushes (e.g. yew, snowberry) and plants (e.g. deadly nightshade, true lover’s knot) you are not familiar with, you should be safe.
There are many banks in the Czech Republic with English-speaking staff. Here are some of the most popular local retail banks: Česká spořitelna, Equa bank, Air Bank, Citybank, ČSOB, Moneta, KB, etc. There are also international partners such as HSBC, Unicredit Bank, Raiffeisenbank, etc. The banking fees differ in most of them, however, most of the banks have no monthly maintenance fee for students under 26, and you pay no fees in Equa bank or Air bank for opening an account or for its management, no matter how old you are. You can open a bank account online, or by making an appointment at the bank.
Note: You’ll need to bring two official identification documents, a confirmation that you are a student (if you are under 26), and your visa / long-term residence card (if you are not from EU).
Students from EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are entitled to the provision of essential and urgent medical care free-of-charge. It is only necessary that they have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Other kinds of medically related care, e.g. non-urgent treatment, or medically assisted transport home following serious illness or injury, are not covered, and for these cases, you are recommended you arrange extra medical or commercial travel insurance with an insurance provider in your home country.
Non-EU students need to have a comprehensive health insurance already when applying for their visa / long-term residency. These are a few insurance companies they can have their comprehensive insurance with: Všeobecná zdravotní pojištovna (VZP), Slavia, Maxima, CSAS UNIQA, Ergo. In case of health problems in Prague, contact the assistant service recommended to you by the insurance company that provides you the insurance in CR – they should be able to inform you which contractual doctors and healthcare facilities to contact.
If you suffer from acute problems, you can go to any hospital in Prague, no matter which insurance you have. The closest to UMPRUM is Všeobecná fakultní nemocnice in Prague 2, Karlovo náměstí, U Nemocnice 499/2 and Nemocnice na Františku, Na Františku 847/8, Prague 1. Remember to bring your health insurance card and your passport/ID card.
